In November of 2022, three Vermont choirs came together in Stetson Studio One at the Vermont Public studios to record new works and old favorite in an event called "One Day: A Choral Celebration of Hope." James' work "One Day" was the finale of entire event; a setting of an original poem arranged for SATB choir, flute, oboe, trumpet, cello, piano 4-hands and percussion. The video begins with James reading the poem before the piece is performed.

In May of 2022, the Solaris Vocal Ensemble featured James' dynamic setting of Emily Dickinson's "The Brain is Wider Than The Sky" for SATB choir, piano and cello.

In their 2021 holiday recording project the Solaris Vocal Ensemble recorded two of James' arrangements of beloved Christmas carols. The first is a jazzy, eclectic reimagining of "Hark the Harold Angels Sing" featuring SATB choir, flute and piano 4 hands.

The second of James' pieces featured on the album is a quiet reflective arrangement of "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" for SATB choir and harp.

James composed the piece "We Will Be Free" for the Solaris Vocal Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Dawn Willis. "We Will Be Free" was written in the Spring of 2020 at the beginning of the global Covid19 pandemic and was undertaken as a virtual choir project by the ensemble.

In December of 2019, James was awarded the first Robert DeCormier Choral Composition Award for his original piece "Restoration Chorus" with lyrics by Allison Roark, James' partner. The piece was commissioned in memory of Robert DeCormier who passed away in 2017. The premiere took place at the Vermont ACDA Madrigal Festival in Burlington, VT performed by a large combined choir of students from schools all across the state.
